The Natural World takes us on a remarkable journey on six continents, from the white
wilderness of the Arctic, through the mountains, parks and valleys of North America, the
jungles of the Amazon and India, and the plains and deserts of Africa. So often, when I visit
wilderness areas and am spellbound by some glorious scenery, I feel a longing to capture the
image so that I can take it away and look at it again and again. Alas, I never developed a
talent for capturing nature with a paintbrush on canvas; Mother Nature painted with a
grandeur that I could not even begin to imitate. And though I often tried to take
photographs, they were dull and poor, bearing no resemblance to the glowing originals. And
so I had to be content with my memories, mind-pictures of the wildness of remote places.
Until, that is, I met Tom Mangelsen and went into one of his galleries . . .
