Waiting for ice to form on Hudson Bay gives the normally solitary polar bears time to socialize. After waiting on land during the summer thaw, the bears migrate in fall to promontories and gather where the ice will form first. This is a time of fasting and of tolerance of other bears. Once the sea freezes the bears will disperse and again compete for food and for mates in the spring. Edition of 950.
