2586 Second Born - Polar Bears
Wapusk National Park, Manitoba, Canada
With winter coming on fast, a young polar bear cub takes refuge from a ground blizzard in the comfort of its mother's hold. Polar bears usually give birth to two or three cubs after a short gestation period of eight weeks. In the safety of a snow or earthen den, the bears nurse and gain the strength to venture out onto the ice, where together the family will search for seals, the cubs closely observing their mother's hunting techniques. Edition of 950.
