2549 Shades of Summer
Wapusk National Park, Manitoba, Canada
Although she seems out of her element, this young polar bear is actually on the sub-Arctic tundra in late summer. During certain years in the Arctic the pack ice melts and breaks up early, leaving the bears with no choice but to go to shore. Although they don't have access to their regular food staple, the ringed seal, polar bears supplement their diet with gooseberries and clams from the tidal flats of Hudson Bay. Edition of 1500.
