2920 The Salmon Seekers
Lake Clark National Park, Alaska
As one of the most prolific fisheries in the world, the waters of Lake Clark National Park draw brown bears to its abundant shores during the annual salmon run. Schools of silver salmon gather at the mouth of one of the many shallow streams. Here they wait for incoming tides, the only way to spark their voyage upstream to spawn. Glaucous-winged gulls hover on gale force winds above a family of brown bears, all of them anticipating their next meal. The gathering of gulls and bears along with the scent of salmon attracts another large female bear to the scene. She poses no threat to the family group. Edition of 2000.
