The Teton range emerges from its snowy blanket on a frigid January morning, bathed in the soft, dreamy glow of the rising winter sun. With January’s arrival, fall relinquishes its hold as the dreary, gray and snowless landscape of November and December fade into the ethereal scenes of deep winter. A series of long-overdue early-January snowstorms engulf the Jackson Hole valley, blocking the sun as snow finally begins to fill the windswept plains beneath the towering peaks. A temporary reprieve from the heavy storms brings clear skies and the kind of frozen air that scatters the morning light into a magical blushing glow. Only hours later, winter’s work resumes as clouds bearing feet of snow roll back over the crown of the Teton range.
