Startled by the sound of a gaur moving on the other side of a nearby pond, a mother and adolescent tiger look quickly toward the distant sound. Native to India and Southeast Asia, a gaur is a bison-like animal and the largest extant bovine species on earth. Though tigers are capable of preying upon these giants, it comes with a significant risk of injury. The decision to let this large animal pass by without chase is an easy one for this cautious mother.
