As the setting sun kisses the tops of distant conifers, famous Grizzly 399 leads her cubs through the wildflower-filled meadows near Pilgrim Creek. Lupine adds a splash of periwinkle to the minty greens of the sagebrush, while biscuitroot, a favorite snack of grizzlies in Greater Yellowstone, pops with yellow. This early summer bounty is often key in ensuring the health of a bear family throughout the rest of the year.
