Summer on the Kenai
Kenai Peninsula, Alaska
Limited Edition of 2500 | Artist Proof 250
A dazzle of the wildflower known as fireweed blooms in summer on a schedule that many Alaskans set their watches by. Dubbed "Alaska's Calendar", this tall, stalk-like flower blossoms from the bottom petals upwards. Each flower will eventually turn to cotton and go to seed and when the entire plant is nothing more than tufts, it is said that just six weeks remain until the start of winter. Even with summer in full swing, the highest mountain glaciers remind both visitors and locals that in this northern country, the cold season is never far off.
