Jewels of the Jungle - Red and Green Macaws
Manu National Park, Peru
Limited Edition of 1500 | Artist Proof 150
Clinging to a cliff high above a remote Amazon-basin river, a flock of macaws chisel away at mineral rich clay with their strong, well-equipped bills. Morning is the prime time for macaws to visit these licks, although their precise reason for doing so is still undetermined. Whether the clay acts as a nutritional supplement or neutralizes their diet of leaves and seeds (many of which are toxic) one thing is certain: numerous species of macaws and parrots benefit from the addition of clay to their diet.
