Origins - Maasai Giraffes
Maasai Mara Game Reserve, Kenya
Limited Edition of 950 | Artist Proof 95
Icons of the East African plains, a pair of giraffes graze on an acacia shrub against the blaze of a setting sun. There are five different subspecies of giraffes in East and South Africa, recognizable by the distinct patterns of their orange, brown, and white hides. These ungulates, or hoofed animals, are herbivores and consume mostly leaves and twigs off the tops of trees. Giraffes take a great risk by feeding on the ground where, without the advantage of their height, they become susceptible to preying lions.
